Some childhood friends of mine are up-and-coming rock stars in the Christian music world. Their band, Remedy Drive is in the process of signing with a label and they have been touring the U.S. for the past several years.
David, the band’s lead singer/song-writer/guitarist called me on Thursday. They were playing a gig nearby and wondered if we could hang out after the show. I bettered that and gave them a place to crash overnight.
My boys were beyond thrilled to have "real rock stars!" sleeping in their room. Jude could not contain himself. At 4:30 am he burst into the room, examined each of the sleeping guys and ran back into our room shouting:
"Dad, Dad! The rock stars are sleeping in.my.room!!!"
It had been a long time since I hung out with these guys. We fixed a grand breakfast for them, swapped stories, laughed and talked about our mutual hero, Bono.
They signed a promo poster for the boys and then Jude decided to add his own personal touch by scribbling all over the poster (esp. their faces!) with a Sharpie!
I was mortified and apologized profusely, but the guys were cool about it. The only bummer was that Dan (the drummer) was not on this tour. We missed him!
Here’s hoping my friends hit the big time!
