My head is burrowed against his chest. We're slow dancing in the
kitchen to country music. I'm barefoot and
he has a dish-towel slung over his shoulder.
"How many times have you pulled me out of the darkness?" I mumble. He chuckles and holds me tighter.
"You're just tired, sweet mother," he says.
"It's only 8pm," I protest.
"You're the mother of five," he reminds me gently.
Five souls to nurture. No wonder I'm tired!
Not to mention that I'm suffering from Twinsanity. I've been seeing double for 17 months, now.
"Someone is watching us," he whispers into my hair. We turn. Jewel is poised on the stairway, watching us intently.
"Did you kiss Daddy before your wedding day?" she asked me recently.
"Yes," I answered. "But not until he told me he would marry me."
"I'm going to wait for my husband, too," she said.
"I hope you do," I said.
"Well," says James, "I think girls are DIS-gus-TING!"
"Yeah, ewwwww," Jude chimes in.
Back in the kitchen, Daddy smiles at Jewel. "Go to bed, my Jewel," he says.
And she does, smiling.
{These beautiful pictures were taken by my friend, Kathy Pasmore, of Pasmore Photography. Kathy's work has been featured on the cover of Creating Keepsakes. I met Kathy a few years ago at a local Orange County scrapbook store where she taught crop classes. Kathy's knowledge, attention to detail and passion for her art never cease to amaze me–especially during a photo-shoot with a family as big as mine! Thanks, Kathy! }
