This month, the twins mastered climbing up their play slide. But they haven't mastered the whole sliding down one-at-a-time thing. They both insist (unsuccessfully) on trying to slide down at the same time. When they get stuck, they resolve this by shouting "NO! BE NY-SHHH!" at each other. Of course, the way they demonstrate "be nice" is to bite.
Behold, how they love one another!
A couple weeks ago, we filled one of their portable cribs with plastic balls. Now they have their own private ball pit, much to their unbridled delight. Except the balls never stay IN the ball pit. Oh, no. It's so much more fun to throw the balls OUT!
Look, look Jorie! See Mommy fetch!
We've been spending more and more time outdoors. As soon as lunch is over, they go toddling for the backdoor. They bang on it and shout: "DAT! DAT!"
"Dat" means "that" and refers to anything they may want at the moment. I'm working on repeating "That, please" before I get them what they want. Mostly, I get blank stares. And then a very exaggerated pointing and yelling: "DAT!" again.
Once I open the door, they usually make a bee-line for the hydrangea bushes–their favorite hide-out. Can you spot the baby between the blooms?
I like to sit on the warm, brick walkway and listen to them jabbering to each other among the hydrangeas. This week, they toted stuffed animals and a little plastic chair back there. They had themselves a regular ol' party; dining on dirt, rolly-polies and a few dead leaves.
I couldn't make out what they were saying, exactly. They seem to have their own language. But whatever it was, occasionally they would burst into outrageous laughter.
Back inside, they have a few favorite hang-outs. One of these is the upstairs hallway where they compete for a ride in The Egg Chair, a spinning chair we bought for the boys a few years ago at Ikea.
Of course, no ride in The Egg Chair would be complete without your special teddy bear, right?
I can't tell for sure, but I think Jorie might be my reflective one. She is more interested in books and artwork than her sister. I often catch her staring at a picture or a book for a very long time, like she's really trying to figure it out.
It's just so cool to watch these little human beings grow up. They're so interesting.
Being a mom is such an awesome job!
