THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST, vol. 1, issue 3

First-saturdays3

Welcome to a special edition of
THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST!

This
is where bloggers gather on the first Saturday of each month to share
their latest and greatest blog posts! This month we're featuring posts
from
October 2009!

And as a special treat, worshipful musician Kelly Clinger is offering
her lovely new album "In Your Delay" to one happy winner!

KCCover

"Kelly has a heart for hurting women and wants to share the power that Jesus Christ has had on her life. Her songs are healing and poignant."–from her bio at www.kellyclinger.com

One of my favorite songs on the album is called "What You See in Me" and Kelly told me that it "speaks specifically about my need to see myself through His eyes…and if I believe that He sees me whole, healed and beautiful then I am more likely to trust His leadership in my life."

To be entered in this wonderful giveaway, all readers are welcomed
to leave
one comment per person.

The winner will be randomly selected from the comments on Monday, 11/9 @ 5pm PST

If you do not want the giveaway, but still want to participate
in THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST, please feel free to share your post as usual–without commenting.

Now, let's get this party started!

I'll begin by sharing a post of mine from last month called: Re-thinking Feminism. I chose this post because I loved the respectful, civil dialogue that took place in the comments. I learned so much from my readers. Thank you!

Now it's YOUR TURN!

Here's how to participate:

  1. pick one of YOUR posts from the past month and insert a link to it
in The Mister Linky form here on my blog (remember to provide a direct
link to your specific post, not your home page).
  2. compose a new post at your site encouraging your readers to come
check out the other great submissions and maybe explaining why you
chose to highlight a particular post.

THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST is a celebration of family-friendly art, so please no links to products or giveaways. Thanks!

Comments will close @12pm PST on 11/9 and the winner of Kelly Clinger's album "In Your Delay" will be announced @5pm PST. ENJOY!

This was a post a couple weeks back written about completely putting our faith in HIM for everything….even when our own personal safety is on the line. I am going through some of that right now, so it was a hot topic for me.

Love this Sat. evening blog post idea!!!

Elizabeth, I look forward to this post each month now for the opportunity to meet some great people.

I chose this particular post because it highlights one of the struggles we missionaries face on a regular basis as well as the reminder that missionaries are very much normal humans with regular foibles.

Thanks again for this opportunity. Your words have ministered to me greatly. Thank you for being a strong inspiration for those of us wrestling with a fundamentalist past.

Thank you for hosting this once again, and for introducing me to the name of a singer I haven’t had the pleasure of “meeting” before. This is a nice idea!

    Elizabeth,
Thanks for hosting this fun meme. I enjoy reading all the different posts each month. Thanks for the added bonus of a giveaway this month.

Thanks for doing this Elizabeth! The post I chose to share this month is about one of my favorite people, my daughter. Although she is only eight years old, I learn so much from her about the power of God and how he works in our lives. In this particular story, she taught me about the power of prayer for those from whom we are separated.

Thanks for putting this together Elizabeth :) Wonderful idea!!

I thought about linking to one of my opinion posts, when I actually discuss what I think about a current event or two. But sheer popularity compelled me to post to “The Private Diary of Bella Swan,” a cathartic rant about the Twilight books that turned out to be the biggest hit (or most hits, anyway) my blog has ever had.

    Hi,

Found this site by accident – I like it.

I’ve shared a post about the life of a Catholic priest – first in a series of posts – published on my Blog.

    God bless.

I can’t believe how fast this month went! Anyway, thank you again for hosting this. It’s just the best idea.

    Have a good weekend!

  • Leanne

Hey! Jumping in for the first time. I chose to include a post entitled “Did She Draw the Short Straw?” about my encounter with a nosy person who wanted to know all about my reproductive life…

  • http://joyslittlesoapbox.blogspot.com Joy

I really wrestled with which post to link to this month. It was a tie between the one I put above (“I Know I’m Not Supposed To, But…” about questioning God and wanting instant results) and the one I wrote on the first anniversary of my daughter’s passing, “One Year Ago” (http://joyslittlesoapbox.blogspot.com/2009/10/one-year-ago.html). I basically flipped a coin in my head. :)

Ironically I chose a post that links to the post you chose this month. I really enjoyed the feminism post you wrote and was inspired to write a post on the right to choose….to be a stay at home mom although I haven’t been faced with that choice yet. I talk more about the idea of choosing life paths in my “runner-up” for the month. http://24andprolife.blogspot.com/2009/10/waiting-vs-avoiding.html

Wow, it’s this time already! I too had a hard time choosing my post; so much has happened this month. I ended up linking to one in which I reflect on the job of mothering. Thanks for hosting.

“Kelly has a heart for hurting women and wants to share the power that Jesus Christ has had on her life. Her songs are healing and poignant.”

Oh, no! Don’t tell me that Kelly like to hurt women! Oh, never mind. That is supposed to mean that Kelly has a heart for women who are hurting. Got it. :)

The post I chose is just funny. Kind of a “You are on Candid Camera” moment only there was no Candid Camera, it just happened and I thought, “really what are the odds?” To top it off my husband warned me that I was pushing the limits and then I had to tell him he was right. Anyways, you have to read it to understand what I mean.

This month, my entry is from my main (religious) blog Sancta Sanctis: “Surprised by Bells”.

I had actually been torn about whether to feature a post from that blog or from my secondary (fun) blog Shredded Cheddar. Just for the record, here’s that other post which lost the coin toss:

Elizabeth, thanks for hosting this. I had several posts I wanted to share, but ended up going with a simple one, told in images — an autumn tour. I hope whichever of your readers comes across this one will just inhale and exhale slowly. :)

Thanks for hosting this Elizabeth! I enjoy it. I decided to participate this time and added a link to a post where I reflected on a comment someone about “holiness”.

I posted a vignette about growing up Catholic in the 1950s. This one is about 7th grade and focuses on my teacher, whom I adamantly disliked, until many years later when I was more mature.

It was a toss up between that one and one about a fight I had on the playground.

Oooh, pick me! Firstly, I can’t believe it actually IS this time again. Next Saturday Evening Blog Post, and we’re going to be getting ready to sail!

I don’t usually leave comments on here too, but cut of from the world as I am, I’m always on the lookout for new music. It’s pretty hard to come by with no access to iTunes or any music-y websites! So, pick me! (Randomly) =)

Thank you SO MUCH for all the work you’ve done in setting up this wonderful way to give others the “flavor” of our blogs and also to discover new bloggers we’ll just HAVE to add to our Google Readers!

    Thanks and blessings!!

Thanks for the chance to discover new blogs!

Since I posted about “The Middle Voice of Faith” two months ago, I followed up with a post about “The Middle Voice of Obedience.” This sort of continues the theme of my inquiries into the Catholic Church.

Thanks for writing – it is the greatest compliment anyone has ever offered me. I offer it to you as well.

I enjoyed your post on feminism, but I hadn’t read any of the comments – yowza! You sure know how to get folks riled up ;-) I’ve long referred to feminism as “the F word” because it is such a hot-button issue. I proudly call myself a feminist, and I think that we still have a long way to go in eradicating systemic sexism (and racism, and many other -isms). Still, as with any movement or philosophy, you find the good, the bad, and the ugly, and I don’t deny that some feminists could afford to make their message a little more palatable. (Then again, so could some Christians…)

I’m looking forward to browsing the other links. Thanks for giving us this opportunity to get together every month!
