THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST, vol. 2, issue 6

Welcome to THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST!

This is where bloggers gather on the first Saturday of each month to share their favorite post from the previous month. This month we're sharing our favorite post from JUNE 2010!

I'll begin by sharing my post from this past month. I chose Rejection, Acceptance & Depression. It seems that many of my recent posts have been very difficult for me to write. But I'm finding that it's rewarding to write honestly and authentically without worrying what others will think. There's a kind of freedom in it, wouldn't you agree?

::

Now it's YOUR TURN!

Here's how to participate:

  1. pick one of YOUR posts from the past month. Insert a link to that specific post (not just your home page) in The Mister Linky form here on my blog.
  2. compose a new post at your site with a link back here so your readers can participate, too. The more the merrier–it's always fun to discover new blogs!

THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST is a celebration of family-friendly art, so please no links to products or giveaways. I'm looking forward to reading your submissions! Enjoy!

Thanks for doing this — very fun!

I chose a post I wrote about a very silly game that my friends and I used to play in high school. Even though it was genuinely goofy, I have fond memories of the joy we had playing it and of some of the lessons that I learned even in something so seemingly pointless.

I really like the honesty of your blog, very moving. My mother suffers with depression and as a child I always knew that it was an illness. Many don’t accept that, even some of her children and her friends from church believes she is either not praying enough or is being punished for some past terrible deeds. Thanks again.

Thanks for the chance to look back over a month of spilled words.

I too chose the post in which I bled on the screen. It received a huge response, mostly positive ones in public and some negative ones in private emails and conversations.

I look forward to reading everyone else’s contributions when I get some time!

I chose a post in which I explain my search for a place within a faith community. Sometimes, it helps others understand why I have an aversion to church, particularly the fundamentalist variety. I always hope –perhaps, if she understood the hurt, then maybe she wouldn’t judge me. Of course, that doesn’t always happen. Blessings!

I always look forward to this monthly feature.. thank you!

This month I linked back to a post about mosquitos and what the Lord had to say about parasites..

If I don’t seem to comment often.. it’s my slow dial-up internet causing trouble again.

Now.. I have an itch to scratch.

Thanks for doing this every month. I always find something new to read and be inspired by.

    Hi EE!

This is my first time on the SEBP. I’m looking forward to getting to know these wonderful ladies!

I posted about how I’m learning to ask for help when I need it from my friends, without worrying about looking stupid.

“Much love,” Betsy (Sorry, couldn’t help myself) :-)

Hello, Elizabeth! I do like your honesty. I would call it your unique voice. Sometimes it’s painfully honest. I suffered from depression beginning at the young age of 19 and it was with me until age 25. Since then my bouts have been mild and short-lived, and I’m grateful for that. My hope for you is that you, too, will experience full and permanent healing.

My post is sort of a double feature, and not particularly profound. I think it’s unique, though. At my parish, St. Patrick, a new image of the saint was carved into a tree trunk. I took a photo of the finished statue. This post has a link to another post from May which tells more about it and shows the artist at work.

I picked a reflection from early in June. Thanks again for hosting this.

I enjoy reading your posts and can identify with your struggles through depression. I’ve battled it for many, many years. I pray for you each day as I read what you share. Thanks for the opportunity to link up. I chose the post I wrote for our third-born’s seventh birthday. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you for the chance to find new blogs to read! I linked up a post I wrote about the church plant my husband and I were a part of. Actually, it’s the first time I’ve written about it. Ever.

I don’t know if I’ve left many (any?) comments here, but I really enjoy your blog, your writing and you.

Oh Elizabeth, I just love your blog! I am one of those common lurkers who just takes it all in and yet has never has commented before…until today. Thanks for such a fun chance to ‘meet’ other bloggers.

June was a whirlwind of random thoughts. I linked up a post about my ongoing struggle with fear…and the white-knuckled grip I know The Lord is asking me to release. Hmmm, still working on it…

    Have a wonderful 4th!

I chose a post that got spread all over Facebook and other forums by my dear friends and turned out to be wildly popular. It’s just me being honest and humorous about the men we love. :)

I posted something I wrote today. Hope that’s allowed. I was wondering what it means to be a great writer and why it is so important to me. So, I wrote this silly interview with me and a Greatness Counselor, who explained to me quite clearly that Greatness, or at least the common definition of it, isn’t really what I want after all. The truth is, all I want is cake.

This is a cool idea! My post has to do with struggling being single and how God addressed some of my grumbling.

After lurking, then commenting and reading for as long as this blog has been up and running, I decided to participate. My oldest child is a pre-teen and has Asperger’s Syndrome. I picked a post about the ride I am on.

    Hello Elizabeth,

I found out about your blog from Elizabeth Mahlou’s blog Blest Atheist. I thought I would give this a try. Thanks for allowing me to contribute.

Sorry I am so late! I wanted to put this up earlier but I was so busy all day today. This is my first time entering one. This past month was really hard for me, since my husband and I should have had our first child then and I felt like I truly spoke from my heart. Thanks for doing this. I always look forward to it!

This is my first time to link up–what a FUN idea! I really look forward to reading everyone’s favorite posts!

I am here from reading a Rocks in My Dryer comment… I really look forward to peeking around a little bit. I am LOVING what I am reading so far!

    Happy 4th!

Thanks for the gathering place you’re providing here.

I chose a post concerning an issue that carved a hole in my life, and carves holes in the hearts of innocent women. I’m not necessarily plowing new ground with it, but it’s very personal to me.

Oops! as always I forgot to put the post title…I’m such a goof! ANYHOO! :) Thanks for doing this, EE! I wrote about ‘Keeping up Appearances’…:)
