THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST, vol. 2, issue 7

Welcome to THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST!

This is where bloggers gather on the first Saturday of each month to share their latest and greatest blog posts. This weekend we are sharing our favorite post from July 2010!

I'll begin by sharing one of my posts: The Bible–like Google maps with a side of Motrin. I chose this post because I think it demonstrates how fundamentalists approach and use the Bible. It was one of my most popular posts in July.

: :

Now, it's your turn!

Here's how to participate:

  1. pick one of YOUR posts from the past month. Insert a link to that specific post (not just your home page) in The Mister Linky form here on my blog.
  2. compose a new post at your site with a link back here so your readers can participate, too. The more the merrier–it's always fun to discover new blogs!

THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST is a celebration of family-friendly art, so please no links to products or giveaways. I'm looking forward to reading your submissions! Enjoy!

Elizabeth, thank you, again for hosting this. I enjoy reading the variety of blog posts each month. Mine for July is about prayer. Can anyone ever say enough, know enough, or do enough, when it comes to prayer?

  • http://www.unequally-yoked.com Leah

Thanks so much for hosting this! The post I shared (“Here I Am, Dressing Up as Christ” is about my experience reading Mere Christianity as an atheist.

  • http://www.bigmama247.com Alise

Thanks again for the opportunity to participate! I picked a post I wrote about unfair comparisons. Jon Acuff of Stuff Christians Like posted a fantastic quote one day that really just moved me and hence the post. I think everyone struggles with comparing themselves to others at one point or another and I also think that it’s important to remember that we each have value.

Wow…what fun! I decided to include my latest post entitled ‘Homegrown Filmmaking’ because I think it really tells folks what we are all about.

You are awesome. Someday, I will send you a gross of Mint Milanos.

    Hi Elizabeth,

Ever since reading your post How do I forgive when there’s no apology, I’ve been reading others write or comment on the subject. I hope to write about it this month but for my July contribution to SEBP v2, i7, I’m submitting an analysis of character, Show Me What You Got.

    Thanks for hosting the SEBP

I had a hard time choosing a post this month. It has been a very busy and stressful month. My posts have not been my best. The ones that come most from the heart were still to raw.

However, I did like writing this post about labels. Labels are neutral but our reaction to them can be very emotional. Living in a world greatly effected by labels has shown me how to use them as a tool.

  • http://www.3turkeys.net Mary

I chose a post I wrote for my mom. It started out as a Quick Take on Conversion Diary and before I knew it, I’d written a love note.

  • http://laura-lucille.blogspot.com Laura

I wrote this month’s post after a friend’s wedding – a reflection of my thoughts on the groom’s face as she walked down the aisle.
    Thanks for hosting!

  • http://quiveringdaughters.blogspot.com/ Hillary

I look forward to checking out everyone’s links! Thanks for hosting, Elizabeth!

Greetings Elizabeth! My choice this month is on the burden of hate. This piece addresses the sinfulness of hatred and the healing of forgiveness.

  • http://www.thesescatteredreflections.blogspot.com Sarah Johnson

I just started my blog on July 31st, so I just made the deadline for July posts. :) I posted, “the promise of morning” which gives a little snapshot of what it’s like to have depression.

Hope you enjoy my post about marriage. Thanks for hosting.

Happy Saturday Elizabeth and everyone else,
I haven’t been a part of this for a few months, I was waiting on a new website – it’s finally here, so I’m glad to be back at the party :)
My post is about the joy of spending time alone sometimes – I need it to center myself. http://www.janetober.com/2010/08/04/being-alone/

  • http://thecommandmentsofmen.blogspot.com Lewis

A post about the bottom line of patriocentricity.

Thanks for the gathering place, Elizabeth.

I’ve not done this before. Could be fun. I’m picking Leah’s blog.

as a fairly new blogger, the blog i received the most hits is one that was probably my simplest. you’re an inspiration, elizabeth. xo

Liked your post the first time I read it.. and glad I had the chance to re-read.

I’ve linked to a post about sunshine overcoming the rain.

To my fellow Mint Milano eater, this is a wonderful idea…so wonderful that I shall go eat some Mint Milanos whilst I read blogs. I linked to a post I wrote on modesty and the commodification of the female body.

  • http://faithandfood.morizot.net/ Scott Morizot

I added a link to one of my posts in the series I did on Heaven & Earth (& Hell). Yes, there’s a reason I structured the title that way. If anyone reading it enjoys or is intrigued by that post, they might find the rest of the series interesting.

  • http://nightpsalms.wordpress.com Becky L

I had THE HARDEST time trying to figure out which post to link to on here! So I just did the one that had the most traffic…and got the most subscribers! :) Thanks for doing this!

  • http://www.givinguponperfect.com Mary @ Giving Up on Perfect

Thank you for this link-up! I chose my post about being a feminist. I’m not very brave, so saying it “out loud” was a big step for me.

Sadly, most of the {great} comments on my post disappeared when I moved to WordPress last week. But the conversation was (I admit, surprisingly) respectful and open. I loved it!

  • http://thecornerwithaview.blogspot.com Julie

Hi! First time posting, but thought I would. :) My post has to do with Prop. 8 passing. I’m a 22 year old reporter living in a big city and practicing Catholicism by myself. I like to use literary excerpts, post poems and pictures and reflections. God bless!

  • http://milehimama.com Milehimama

I love this meme, BTW. But I messed up the linky- Linkytools remembered my last entry and autofilled it in. My link goes to one about my bipolar child, not a recipe – how do I fix the link text? thanks!

  • http://www.joyinthisjourney.com Joy – Joy in This Journey

I always look forward to the Saturday Evening Blog Post. I plan to browse through the posts during naptime this afternoon!

I linked to “Letters to the Wounded, from the Wounded” for two reasons: for two reasons — first, it’s a bare-naked confession of where I’m at with God right now (prompted by an incredible post on A Holy Experience), and second, because Ann Voskamp, author of A Holy Experience and one of my very favorit-est bloggers (next to you, of course), not only found this post but commented on it and linked to it.

  • http://cindyholman.wordpress.com Cindy Holman

Thanks Elizabeth for doing this – how great to read what others have out there and to have them read mine! I posted my article written last week on “what scares you” a journey into what holds us back from being everything we’re supposed to be. Enjoy!

  • http://www.mommymattersblog.com Karin Katherine

Thanks for hosting this. What a great idea. It made me go back and see what my most popular post was in the past month.

  • http://www.UnderMuchGrace.com Cindy K

It’s not exactly the best post of the month, but I think it was the most significant, representing the good fruit and helpful, practical reward of more than two years of work to shine the light of truth on a particularly problematic problem of deception. It was a testimony to me about how God works everything together when the time is right, for His greatest glory and what I hope is the greatest benefit for the most people.

One of my favorite posts here in July by Elizabeth has been, “I Am Free”
    http://www.elizabethesther.com/2010/07/free.html

I thought several times about leaving a comment, but they all seemed inadequate!

  • http://confessingformerchurchlady.blogspot.com/ Deborah

Thanks, Elizabeth. I’m a new blogger, eager to share my stories and to read the stories of others.

  • http://www.denimjumpers2bluejeans.wordpress.com Heather

This is a great idea! I am sharing what the fruit of fundadmentalism did for me. I emailed you a little bit of my story, but this is a detailed version of it. :)

  • http://www.ArtofEloquence.com JoJo Tabares

What a great idea! I’ve got some spectacular reading material! Whohoo!

  • http://frombitterwaterstosweet.blogspot.com/ Mara

I couldn’t get on here this morning. I guess because so many people were doing this.

The post I linked isn’t my favorite, but it is the first in a series in response to zealous, right-wing, Christian blogger who thinks the biggest enemy, or at least one of the biggest enemies to the church and society as we know it, is the gender feminist. (pro-abortion, anti-father)

I disagreed. And instead of explaining it on his blog, I decide to write about it on mine.
The post is called “Sin in the Camp”. And it’s the sins of Christians, in the form of patriarchy, legalism, and other things that will undermine the church faster than anything anyone outside the camp could ever imagine.

Thanks Elizabeth Esther for this opportunity to share.
Looking forward to viewing posts linked by other people.

I have a new blog, but I am not sure which direction I am going with it. I’m just “going with the flow” with the blog at the moment. I would like others to visit my blog, but I am afraid that they may get bored and not find it very exciting, ha!

This is the first time I’ve ever done anything like this. I hope I get it right.

My entry deals with the delicate issues that emerge once our two families, divided by the narcissistic and controlling preacher that we are related to, are brought together after 10 years apart, to memorialize the life of our missionary father/grandfather.

These events will continue to occur bringing our two families together, but though together, we will remain divided.

  • http://baptisttalibanmemoirs.blogspot.com Cindy Foster

I noticed that the name of my blog did not appear with my name in the above post. It is Baptist Taliban Memoirs at baptisttaliban.blogspot.com. The link to the post I mentioned above is: http://baptisttaliban.blogspot.com/2010_07_11_archive.html

I am looking forward to discovering some new blogs to follow!

    Hi Elizabeth,

Something seemed inoperant about your Linking system when I tried to connect my post. It’s been a number of months, so maybe I have something to relearn. In any event, the post is on my site, and the link from there to here works. Have a great weekend!

  • http://www.emahlou.blogspot.com Elizabeth Mahlou

Please ignore my last comment. I have realized that I tried to link to the wrong month!! (I tend to miss small details.)
