THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST, vol. 2, issue 11

Welcome to the SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST!
This is where bloggers gather on the first Saturday of the month to share their latest and greatest blog posts. This month we’re sharing our favorite post
from NOVEMBER 2010!

I’ll begin by sharing my favorite post from this last month: Finding the unconditional love of God in Catholicism. I chose this post because it explains the process that drew me into an awareness and new understanding of God’s love.

Now, it’s your turn! Here’s how to participate:

  1. Pick one of YOUR posts from the last month. Insert that specific post (not your home page) into the Mister Linky form here.
  2. Create a new post on your blog linking back here and encouraging your readers to come join the fun! It’s always wonderful to meet new bloggers.

The Saturday Evening Blog Post is a celebration of family-friendly art and writing. Please no links to products or giveaways. Thank you.

(I’m still learning WordPress and could not figure out how to install the Original Linky form, so I had to use the image linky for now. My apologies. If you click on the Linky form below you will see all the submissions. Anyone wanna help a girl out? How do you install the Original Linkies on WordPress? ack!)

I posted something I wrote a couple of weeks ago asking if Jesus is really “all we need.” The post is okay, but I LOVE the discussion in the comments. Lots of really insightful comments from my readers. Would love to hear what any of you have to say about it as well.

My post is about modern-day Christian prophets who, like Jonah, prefer to see destruction than restoration.

I’m linking a ridiculous post I wrote in the spur of the moment, that ended up being one of my most linked posts ever.

I left the post about Amtrak because I’m totally dedicated to supporting high-speed rail in this country. It’s one of my pet projects, and I’m hoping that the ridiculousness (is that even a word?) of the TSA will encourage more people to take the train.

I wrote a piece on some outstanding bishops who boldly defend the (Catholic) faith.

I linked up my post on the Story of Faith. I chose this post because it was one of the hardest posts to write ,but the one I needed to write. I needed to write about my coming back to the faith through literature since some of the best Christians have never actually lived except in the pages of novels.

Good morning! I finally remembered to get on elizabeth’s site on the Saturday of the Evening Post. This past year I have been really dealing with my ill feelings toward religious leaders, especially those that are more about the money, power & prestige and less about the care, nurturing & spiritual guidance of the people under their care.

It all came to a head last month (November) so in an attempt to let off some of my steam I wrote “Mr. Preacher, You’re Fired.” I laughed through most of it, and cried through the rest. Of all the posts I’ve written on God’s Bespoke Tailoring, this one was the first that I let go and exposed how I truly felt without fear of retaliation. Elizabeth encouraged me, indirectly.

Thanks EE for keeping it real and using your words. I’ve finally started using mine.

It happened like a sudden stop jolts you right out of your seat. I was only in my teens when it began and I left and slowly ebbed out the back door. So when I came back in my mid-20′s, all those fears of how I left came rushing back from my prodigal time spent from there to here. It wasn’t the building I was intimidated by. It was the people inside and I was no longer young and innocent. This is how I came back….

This month I am contributing The Atheists are Spreading Their Holiday “Cheer.” I chose this particular post because I want to raise awareness about the illogic of what the atheists are saying about belief and religion. There are others who can express this more eruditely than I, but I’m saying it in my own simple way.

Thank you, Elizabeth for sponsoring the Saturday Evening Blog Post. I always meet new and interesting bloggers.

I had a hard time picking between the one I picked, one from my reflections on resurrection series and the one on reality. Finally went with the thoughts spurred by a tweeted question. Today’s my daughters birthday party, but I can look into the technical issues if somebody else doesn’t answer that question first.

I chose my post about being NOT pregnant. A lot of people have been asking me or assuming I was expecting because our two children are 22 months apart and the youngest is about the age that I got pregnant with him. I really struggle with not being pregnant, with waiting and following through with what God has asked of us. This obedience, as painful as it is, will ultimately lead to exactly what my heart is desiring.

Ah, it’s good to be back. I shared a post that’s just a little piece of short fiction in the theme of Advent. Though it doesn’t seem like it at first. (It’s a story about prostitutes and expectations.) I’ve been trying to work up the energy to write again and this came out, slowly I’m returning to the blog world and, most importantly, looking forward to catching up on all that I’ve been missing out on!

I wrote an Advent reflection. More of the same kind will be posted on my blog throughout Advent, ending on Christmas day!

Inspired by your link, EE, I’m linking to a post a wrote about the pain of conversion. My family remains Protestant while I have converted to Catholicism, and particularly around the holidays the pain at times is overwhelming.

I wrote a post about “How I’m Learning How to Not be a Judgmental Mom.” In this post I bring-up the way moms are pitted against one another depending on what parenting philosophy you subscribe to and how that easily gives way to judging one another. Still early in my parenting journey, I’m learning to give that up and show other moms some grace.

Thanks for doing this. I added a reference to my Gullible Reactions to Authority post.

I just remembered that last month I posted to my other blog for the first time this year. So, I’m contributing “November: Grace after Meals and Remembering the Dead.” When I was a child our family said grace both before and after our meals. I haven’t done that in years, but I’d like to revive the practice. Getting my husband on board with the idea isn’t easy. :-)

I had a hard time picking this month. I blogged daily, except Sundays, and I have a few favourites in there. In the end I decided to share an entry that’s been at the front of my mind since writing it, a reminder that God is already here as I enter into this Advent season. I find it both sad and ironic that I had been trying to so hard to make sure He was the center of our season, and yet had failed to stop and actually acknowledge His presence here.

I contributed a post I wrote in response to the ‘Steadfast Daughters’ blog, in which I try to convince myself that we are not supposed to be fighting against flesh and blood: be that ‘the world’, or patriocentricity.
