THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST, vol. 3, issue 5

WELCOME TO THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST!

This is where bloggers gather on the first Saturday of each month to share their latest and greatest blog posts! This month we’re sharing our favorite post from MAY 2011!

I’ll begin by sharing my favorite. I chose: To Bikini or Not to Bikini. This post sparked some great conversation. As a follow-up, we found a fabulous tankini (more modest than a lot of one-pieces out there!) for my daughter to wear this summer. Thanks for your input!

Now, it’s your turn! Here’s how to participate:

  1. Pick one of YOUR posts from the last month. Insert that specific post (not your home page) into the Linky form here.
  2. Create a new post on your blog telling your readers about THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST. Be sure to provide a link back here! It’s always fun to “meet” new bloggers.

The Saturday Evening Blog Post is a celebration of family-friendly art and writing. Please no links to products or giveaways. Thank you.

=) My first time entering! Woo! Thanks, EE!

  • http://Www.lorialexander.blogspot.com Lori

This seemed to be my most popular post in May. I guess everyone likes a good love story!

  • http://www.emuf.blogspot.com Emily

Thanks EE! I love discovering new friends in Blogland.

  • http://www.ericpazdziora.com Eric

In case anyone wanted a dose of kitsch and silliness, I linked my latest collection of Christian album covers. Oh, dear.

    • http://www.madamerubies.com Heather

Hee hee. Off to check your blog.

I would have loved to give you all an example of my best writing for June. But somethings seem more important to the whole scheme of things. So instead I’m leaving you with a link to speech given by a Nigerian Novelist named Chimananda Adichie. Don’t worry if you cannot understand her name. Her speech is completely understandable and her delivery is fully engaging.
She speaks about things that concern us all from a different, less Americanized, Christian, and Fundamentally influenced perspective.
I believe that those who listen to her speak will gain more understanding on the way we all perceive things.
So please, when you have 20 minutes to spare and want to use those minutes on something well worth your time, come over to my blog and click on the link to Chimananda’s message on “The Dangers of the Single Story”.
    You will not regret it.

Elizabeth, I’m tongue-tied when trying to articulate “the reasons for my hope”: a la 1 Peter 3:15. So I posted on that topic, and I hope someone in this bloggers’ neighborhood will post a comment articulating their reason for hope. I could use the inspiration, and in the meantime I continue to mull.

Thanks for the link up! Always fun to meet new bloggers!

My entry this month came from the questions raised by the frenzied bloodlust that followed the death of Osama bin Laden.

  • http://www.thesescatteredreflections.blogspot.com/ Sarah Johnson

My favorite entry was a post dedicated to my first baby (who is now 4 days past her due date).

    • http://frombitterwaterstosweet.blogspot.com/ Mara

      Sarah,
I’m not saying this to discourage you, but to give you perspective.
My first born was 16 days overdue. And they induced him.
I refused to be induced with my second son, and he was 18 days overdue.
My daughter was only 10 days overdue, and I was ready to throw a party because she wasn’t as late as her brothers.
My fourth and last child, second daughter?
Not sure. Knowing my history, the midwife wouldn’t tell me when she was do. But she would smile with wisdom and say, “You are surprising me.
She was the biggest one yet. So I have the feeling she was at least a week overdue.
They were all healthy and beautiful, completely bypassing that homely, wrinkly newborn stage.
      I wouldn’t change a thing if I could.

    • http://www.kathleenbasi.com Kathleen@so much to say

I completely sympathize. I was a wreck. My first was a week past his due date, no matter how you counted it, and it was a good thing they finally induced…but you know what? You don’t need to hear that! Happy, safe delivery!!!!

      • http://frombitterwaterstosweet.blogspot.com/ Mara

oh. youngest is fourteen. Forgot about being a wreck with the oldest (22).
Yeah, Sarah. Take heart and take care of yourself so you’ll be strong and confident and rested for the delivery.
Having babies is one of life’s greatest joys.

      • http://www.thesescatteredreflections.blogspot.com/ Sarah Johnson

Thank you! :) Tomorrow I will be one week overdue, and I have a dr. appointment, so we shall see what the next step is!

  • http://recoveringpessimist.blogspot.com Jennifer

    Thanks Elizabeth!!

  • http://www.mybloggerconfessions.blogspot.com Sherry

YAY for the linky going up early! You rock, Esther!

My favorite post from the month is about God’s faithfulness. I can’t say enough about how comforting it is that He is faithful, always.

  • http://www.ayoungmomsmusings.blogspot.com Young Mom

My post is a big breakthrough I’ve had recently. I was a bit nervous about posting it, but then had such an overwhelming supportive response!

May has not been a very active month for me on my blog for various reasons, not least the health of my wife. So I cheated and picked a post from April on the Jesus Prayer. I hope others find it interesting and helpful.

  • http://hippiehousewife.blogspot.com Cynthia

I’ve shared a post I wrote on the struggles of mothering as an introvert. It seemed to resonate with a lot of my readers; it was encouraging to know so many others could relate.

  • http://www.kathleenbasi.com Kathleen@so much to say

I usually try to take Saturday off of blogging, so sometimes I forget to link. So glad I remembered this time! :)

  • http://www.joyinthisjourney.com Joy

I linked to my favorite in a series I wrote about the agonies of participating in church worship services geared towards the happy when I’m the opposite of happy, and how that kind of service actually misrepresents God and Christianity.

My blog entry for today also includes links to the most popular one in the series (How You Can Stop Lying In Church) and to my favorite guest post on the coin-swallowing misadventures of my youngest (This Too Shall Pass). :)

  • http://felicemifa.wordpress.com Margaret Felice

I shared “The Path of Life”, which I wrote on Mother’s Day, about how my mother contributed to my sacramental imagination (and taught me it’s OK to use phrases like “sacramental imagination”).

  • http://www.virginiaisformothers.com Elizabeth @Virginia Is For Mothers

Shy newbie linker-upper here! Looking forward to checking out the other links!

  • http://whoreofalltheearth.blogspot.com Leah

Sharing my Mother’s Day post about honoring the Sacred Feminine. Thanks for hosting!

  • http://ConvertJournal.com George @ Convert Journal

When we receive the Eucharist we respond “Amen”. A short, simple response that means a lot. Last month I wrote about what it means in a piece called The Body of Christ.

  • http://www.practicingmammal.blogspot.com Practicing Mammal

My first time, too! So excited….great idea Elizabeth Esther.

  • http://www.kocur.net/blog Jamie

    Thanks for doing this, EE!

In April I heard that an old friend “escaped” the cult in Dade City. Two weeks later the cult mounted a parade in front of my parents home to show they had “re-claimed” the couple.

I wrote “Foolish Parade” in response.

YAY for meeting new bloggers. :)

Picking just one post was hard…so I went with fun over more spiritual/thought provoking.

Glad I found this monthly meme.

I hope you like my offering this month on the high cost of leaving fundamentalism, where in the comment section I was accused of “misrepresenting” and “lying” about fundamentalists, by a friend nonetheless.

  • http://mistysmornings.blogspot.com/ Misty

I like having something new to read on Saturday nights – usually a slow blogging night.

I just found this today through Laura O in AK and I’m so glad I stopped by! I’m going to enjoy looking around at the posts that others have put on here!

Thanks, as always, EE. Loved that post of yours. I’d love to see you do a follow-up on the reaction to your fiction-writing this week. How did it go over with your readers? Have a great Saturday night, luv! xo

Love doing this every month. Gives me a quick review of what I am putting out there. I chose a post where I finally say what I have been holding back from blogging on for YEARS. Almost 10 years now.

  • http://fixingmythoughts.blogspot.com Bess @ Fixing My Thoughts

Great idea! Thanks for hosting, Elizabeth! My blog is a mix of my past and present writing, book reviews, and decor/china/etc., hoping to exalt Jesus in it all. I didn’t do much writing in May, but my Needlepoint Anyone? post definitely took the most work! Hope some of your readers will check it out and enjoy it! Bess
