THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST, vol. 4, issue 2

Welcome to THE SATURDAY EVENING BLOG POST.
I’m your hostess, Elizabeth Esther.

This is where bloggers gather on the first Saturday of the month
to share their latest and greatest blog posts.

This month we’re sharing our favorite post from January 2012.

I’ll begin by sharing my favorite post from last month. I chose: “Why hating religion but loving Jesus is impossible.” I chose this post because it addresses the numerous common fallacies that have recently become so popular. I also enjoyed the robust dialogue in the comment box. Thanks to everyone for reading here and adding your thoughts. I appreciate you!

Now, it’s your turn! Here’s how to participate:

  1. Pick one of YOUR posts from the last month.
  2. Insert the link to that specific post(not your home page) into the Linky form here.
  3. Spread the word. Share The Saturday Evening Blog Post on Facebook, tweet about it, or write a new post on your blog encouraging your readers to come join the party! The more the merrier! It’s always fun to “meet” new bloggers.

The Saturday Evening Blog Post is a celebration of family-friendly art and writing. Please no links to products or giveaways. Thank you.

    Wow, first one?

Thanks for hosting! And thanks for your choice–I liked your take on Jesus without religion and the ensuing comments.

  • Kristin Smith

Can’t wait to “meet” some new bloggers out there!! Thanks for doing this!

I like that this is on the weekend, so I actually have time to look at some of the other posts. :)

  • Deb Paul

Thanks for hosting the blog share.  Always looking for some other points of view to ponder on to balance out my own.  So appreciate your blog as it has been somewhat of a haven as my trip out of fundamentalist Christianity hasn’t always been a pleasant one.  It’s nice to find someone out there that agrees with me for once.   Bless you, Esther.

I’d like to say that I wrote the best post in January on my blog. But the fact of the matter is I have a friend who used to blog but doesn’t any more. She said if she still blogged, she’d write a letter to Grace Driscoll. So I asked if she would do a guest blog for me. She did. And in less that a week and a half, her blog post shot up to #2 of my most visited posts.

    Her letter deserves it.

Coming out of Fundamentalism, Patriarchy, and Quiverfull, herself, she was able to write with both compassion and confidence. There is no judgement in her letter, but a firm declaring of truth from one woman to another concerning the legalisms that bind a woman up when she’s married to a man with a personality like Driscoll.

So I leave with you, my friend Charis’s letter: “Dear Grace Driscoll”.

I’ve been reading EE for almost a year now ~ with laughter, tears, aggreement, and “What is she DOING” (She’s made me rethink several issues.).  My blog is one year old now and instead of solitary typing, I’m ready to be bolder now.  Thanks, Elizabeth!

I’m so glad I found your blog, EE!  I’m excited to see what the lovely people who hang out here have chosen as their best posts from last month!

  • David Bates

I’d been having a bad day and had been let down by successive people. I was feeling pretty low and then the prayer of Mother Teresa popped into my head…

  • Jenelyn Russo

    Hey EE,

Never done a link-up before, as you know my posts don’t fit this type of sharing. However, I thought my post about my RA and the 5K might be helpful to some people. Thanks for the forum to share :)

  • Emily

Decided why not link up? I posted a poem I wrote on my blog at the end of January. If you want to read it, click on #24 Into the Sun
    Thanks, elizabeth!

Emtering for the first time, though I have been a reader for about a year. Hoping to meet you at Relevant this fall!

  • Kelly Robichaud

I posted a blog post that I just wrote, about a Laughter seminar I went to last night, and the role that  laughter (and a tempermental cat) played in helping me get through a really tough time.  Thanks for the chance to share it, Liz!  I’ll enjoy reading what others have posted, as well. :)

Thanks Elizabeth! I chose a “finally getting real” post which I think set the stage for my adoption-themed blog for this entire year. I also loved your Jesus/religion post. Really thought-provoking and made me see several things in a new light.

Well, I cheated again and linked to post that included a link to two January posts. I couldn’t pick between them.

  • http://www.sarahlcc.com/ Sarahlcc

I liked the Jesus / religion post as well.

  • http://bramboniusinenglish.wordpress.com Brambonius

I liked your ‘jesus vs religion’ post. And I posted one from the ‘masculine Christianity’ debates called ‘biblical manhood to the fruits of the Spirit…’

  • http://www.alise-write.com Alise Wright

    Thanks, as always!

I had a more popular post, but I think my favorite thing that I wrote last month was a bit of poetry entitled Empty.

You really should rename this “Friday Evening Blog Post” if you’re going to start the partay an entire day early. :D

I don’t know how to know which post was most popular — not sure my stat thingy tells me that. So I just picked the one that meant the most to me this month, and then the series of marriage letters that we’re doing with Seth and Amber Haines.

  • Ruthaw_1974

Just saw you on Fox News, and I liked up.  Thanks!

  • Tifanni

    Thanks again :)

Mine wasn’t my most viewed but I liked writing it. Thanks for the chance to plug to your readers.

I’m always amazed when I find wonderful places I hadn’t known about before.  This is a great place to meet new thinkers/writers/bloggers!

  • http://www.davidozab.com/ David Ozab

My favorite January post was about the first few moments of my daughter’s life and my first few moments as a new Dad.

  • Sarah

Happy to be here… from my newish blog, nonetheless! Thanks for hosting!

  • Emily Harmon

I had not heard of your blog before a few hours ago, but thanks to my friend Jen Rose, here I am! I think this is a great idea. Thanks for setting up an opportunity to share.

The post I selected is one where I did very little writing, and let one ancient and one contemporary author do most of the talking.

  • Practicing Mammal

One of my favourite link ups, Elizabeth, thanks for the opportunity.  PM

I decided to link up with my deciding to embrace my mother body.

I do apologize….I put the wrong title on my first link (entry 62) so I added it again on entry 63….

    Thanks again for hosting, EE!
