Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to make the final payment on Jewel’s summer intensive with American Ballet Theatre. My gratitude is beyond words. All I have to say is thank you, thank you, thank you. Here is a small peek into what Jewel is working on these days: fuettes! (Here is the explanation of fuettes). She can do 9 in a row. Her goal is 32.

    I have been a christian for many years and have to say that in that subculture there is litle room for honesty, questions, uncertainity.  The past year or so I have been asking a lot of questions.  I have a lot of doubts and uncertainy.  Sometimes it can feel very lonely and frightening…you feel like you are losing your faith entirely.  Thats for the post… it is good to know I am not alone.

    Here’s a fouetté story for Jewel about Diaghilev’s Baby Ballerinas which I heard Irina Baronova (one of the 3 baby ballerinas) tell a few years ago: She and the other 2, Tamara Toumanova and Tamara Riabouchinska, used to perform a series of fouettés in a row; Toumanova in the centre and the other two on each side. Mama Toumanova was a constant presence backstage keeping an eagle eye on her precious so one day Irina and Tamara R decided to tease Mama by edging closer and closer to Tamara T as they were fouetté-ing. You can imagine Mama’s alarm as she watched this.
    Looking good, Jewel. Keep up the good work.
