In defense of strict(ish) parenting

Just to show you how strict I am, I made this video without makeup. Also, bedhead. Because even though I’m an annoying morning person, I don’t like doing my hair and makeup unless absolutely necessary. But gabbing about the 8 million ideas that pop into my brain the moment I wake up? Now, THAT’S an absolute necessity!

It’s cool to give a voice to your beautifil writings and posts!! Thank you!! :-) I just wanted to say, you are right when you talk of lazyness, but I always try to think of how Jesus was as a child, and although he wasn’t lazy at all, he wasn’t hyperactive either… :-) Sooooo, a time for action and a time to rest, right? I am sure you know that… Take care, blessings!!

      YES! great thought!!!

    Well, I guess I know where your priorities are . . . :-D

I’m way too vain for that, so kudos! I can only wish I looked that good with bedhead and no makeup!
I hate laziness, too.  If I am prejudiced against any group of people, it would definitely be the lazy group! If only more parents felt that way…then again, they probably do…they’re just too lazy to enforce not being lazy in their children.

Are you secretly from Connecticut? I have been told “you talk like a normal person…until you say the word important”. That’s our little upstate CT sleeper accent, only on words like rotten and important…and heaven help us when we go skiing on Stratton mountain.

    Dear EE,
You look so lovely with no makeup and “bed hair”, I would suggest you never need spend time on putting on makeup again. Seriously! There are so many much more important things to do. We love you being you. And what you were saying, well it didn’t sound strict, it sounded like you have some good standards in place for raising capable adults! If you had continued speaking in the same vain for 30 minutes, I would have listened to the whole thing! Your thoughts are always interesting, and sometimes they are also exactly in line with mine. You’re cool. I wish you every success – and keep deleting those mean comments. Who needs them, eh?!

    Best-est wishes,
    Your fan,
    Alison, Switzerland

I’m with MichelleG and Ali – I wish I looked that good in the morning without fixing my hair or applying makeup!

So agree with your “strict” standards and wish more parents would adopt them.  Your kids are lucky.

Good points Elizabeth. I’d like to add adjusting the hard in hard work ethic. If possible, try converging towards providing more illustration/examples of cause and effect in teaching the great standards you mentioned. Makes learning more a philosophy as a opposed to a regiment. For all I know, you do a better parenting job with that. From watching your video, I realized I can improve my efforts in guiding my two boys in improving their inunciation. It’s been sometime since I’ve even heard the word – inunciation. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the subject.
