She was just here, standing in our living room laughing and talking while we watched Luc play with our children. Her wrapped gifts lie unopened beneath our Christmas tree. On Dec. 7, she joined our family at the Santa Train for a magical evening. She was so happy that night. Luc sat on Santa's lap AND smiled at the camera.
"You have no idea," she said to me, "that was such a big accomplishment for him!"
At the end of the evening, we said our goodbyes with promises for a playdate when they returned from New Zealand.
She's never coming back. In a moment, everything changes. Are we ever ready for it? Why do these things happen? Did she know how much I appreciated her?
All we have is now. All we have are moments. How quickly they are gone and we fly away...
