I sometimes worry that my kids expect church to be fun — like a McDonald's Playland with a few glitter-glue Bible verses thrown in. They have this expectation that church will be interesting and relevant: a hip, talented rock/worship band, an inspirational message, a bunch of touchy-feely songs that make them feel good about themselves and their best friend, Jesus. To counteract all this happy-happy, I feel like whipping out a book of Christian martyrs to remind them that, hey, people died for this faith!
